The Environmental Research Center (FZU) is a central institution of Karlsruhe University. It belongs to the rectorate, which acts as supervisor. Further details can be found in the rules of the Environmental Research Center.
The Environmental Research Center was completed in 1997. It offers
5000 square meters of floorspace for temporary environmental research projects that are
mainly funded by third parties. Basic equipment is provided by the FZU. The staff of the FZU office is responsible for organisation,
service, public relations and information exchange.
Emphasis is laid on interdisciplinary cooperation with other institutions.
All scientists running a project at the Environmental Research Center as well as the FZU staff (administration, technical and scientific services) are members of the Environmental Research Center.
All institutes working in the field of environmental research can apply for admission to the FZU. Their projects should be interdisciplinary and have a time and finance schedule. Admission is granted up to 5 years.
